The snow steganography application was designed and written by Matthew Kwan, a computer science graduate from the University of Melbourne.
He learned the art of crypto design during a 12 month stint at the Australian Defence Force Academy Centre for Computer Security Research in 1991. During that time he was involved in the cryptanalysis and later redesign of the centre's LOKI encryption algorithm. And yes, he does get a mention in Applied Cryptography.
He is currently working as a freelance software developer in Melbourne, through his company Darkside Technologies.
